Alumni Teaching Fellow Award


General information

This award, made possible by the Penn State Alumni Association, the Undergraduate Student Government, and the Graduate Student Association, recognizes distinguished teaching and provides a forum for encouraging teaching. Three awards will be presented. No more than two awards may be given to University Park faculty members.


Eligibility

To be considered for the Alumni Teaching Fellow Award, faculty members must have:

  • A full-time appointment at Penn State
  • A tenured appointment (typically with an academic rank of associate professor or professor)
  • Undergraduate teaching as a primary responsibility
  • A minimum of three years undergraduate teaching experience at Penn State

Research faculty, administrators, and those who primarily teach graduate students are not eligible for these awards.


Obligations

Nominees will be asked to share their talents and expertise with others throughout the University system. Year-long responsibilities may include such activities as:

  • Participating in workshops and symposia
  • Giving presentations on teaching to new faculty and graduate assistants
  • Taking part in discussions or seminars with students in the Schreyer Honors College or teaching honors courses

Nomination process

Nominations may be submitted by students, faculty, administrators, staff, and friends of Penn State by a web nomination form. Nominations will be accepted throughout the year with a due date of August 14, 2009 to be considered for the 2010 awards. Preliminary screening is done by department or campus representatives and approved by the dean or campus executive officer. Final selection for all three awards is made by University Committees that may include faculty, students, administrators, and alumni.
