Interdisciplinary Projects

Interdisciplinary teaching and learning grants provide students the opportunity to:
  • Comprehend salient and defining features of two or more disciplines
  • Compare concepts, vocabularies, procedures/methodologies, and forms of evidence for decision-making in these disciplines
  • Integrate and apply these disciplinary practices to problems of common significance
  • Prepare for jobs in emerging fields or for expected fluctuations in the job market
  • Develop skills related to creativity and invention through a focus on diverse or complementary concepts, methods, and applications

Interdisciplinary grants should involve faculty from two or more different disciplines who are committed to team teaching and to addressing problems of significance to students, the University, the nation, and/or the world. Project courses can be either general education or cross-listed requirements/electives for majors.

A good literature review, including definitions and a chapter dedicated to interdisciplinary teaching, can be found at The Higher Education Academy.
