Problem-based learning

Problem-based learning (PBL) is an instructional approach that emphasizes meaningful learning through the solving of open-ended problems (Rhem, 1998). Although the strategy is more widely known for its use in medical education, PBL can be implemented in courses across a wide range of disciplines. Consider using PBL if you are interested in having your students work in teams to solve open-ended problems designed to promote critical and higher-order thinking.
