Using technology in your course design

We have staff at the Schreyer Institute with experience leveraging online tools and technologies in the classroom as well as in research environments. Through our teaching support grants, we have funded projects to look at various aspects of technology for teaching and learning, including the use of communication tools for virtual teams and the use of social media in large class sections to encourage engagement and participation. If you would like to discuss pedagogies regarding the implementation of various technologies in teaching, learning, or research, please contact us at site@psu.edu.

Information Technology Services Opens in new window (ITS) at Penn State provides a wide variety of technology tools that can be used by faculty, staff and students. Many of these are provided by Education Technology Services Opens in new window (ETS). Check out the ETS website to learn more about specific technologies and how other faculty across campus are leveraging technology to impact their classroom.

Many faculty members are taking advantage of these tools to create new and powerful experiences for students. For example, Chrisopher Long Opens in new window, Associate Dean in the Liberal Arts, uses the Penn State blog platform Opens in new window in his philosophy course to extend the conversation with his students, allowing students to contribute thoughts and ideas in new ways, and inviting outside contributors into his course to deepen the experience. Chris created this video on the The Pedagogy of Blogging Opens in new window .

You can visit Chris's blog, the Long Road Opens in new window, to see how Chris utilizes a blog in the flow of his class.
