SITE Has New Testing Center Manager

We're pleased to announce that Mark Henderson has joined us as the Manager of Testing and Scanning Services for the Pollock Testing Center. Mark's management and technical background made him the ideal candidate to lead the Testing Center. Prior to joining Penn State, Mark graduated with honors from the United States Naval Academy and was the number one ranked graduate in the Academy's Oceanography major for that year, which won him the Hendrix Oceanography award. After graduation he served in the Navy as a submariner onboard a nuclear fast-attack boat and also served in the Navy's Oceanography/Meteorology specialty. Mark started his Penn State career in the Eberly College of Science's chemistry department and was most recently employed as the Department Head of Computer Services at the Applied Research Laboratory, where he was responsible for managing all of ARL's IT services and their Help Desk group.

Angela Linse, SITE's executive director, believes that Mark's IT and management skills combined with his leadership experiences makes him uniquely and highly qualified to take the Testing Center to the next level. We are confident that he will be able address future challenges and manage the technologies involved in assessment at Penn State. He brings "a unique perspective to our testing and scanning services that will allow us to continue to be a leader in computer based testing." Even prior to his interview, Mark was researching current trends in e-Testing that will help ensure that we will be able to meet increasing demand for electronic assessment. "I am really excited about the challenges ahead," Mark explains, ". . . and view these as opportunities to better understand and meet the University's academic and technical needs in regard to assessment for both the e-Testing Lab and Scanning Operations." Mark will focus initially on improving exam scheduling in the e-Testing Lab to address concerns of faculty, but he is also investigating the possibility of upgrading the current scanning operations hardware and software.

Please join us in welcoming Mark to our staff and feel free to stop by the Pollock Testing Center to introduce yourself or to set up an appointment to discuss your specific assessment needs with him. (Email: mrh15@psu.edu)
