Abstract
Please limit to 250 words or less.

Quality, Relevance, and Impact
  1. Identify a need that is aligned with recognized institutional and disciplinary goals (e.g., those set by the university, academic unit, or accrediting bodies).
  2. Clearly indicate how the proposed project will meet this need.
  3. Base the project on accurate and current understandings of pedagogy and learning theory.
  4. Use technology appropriate to the specified learning environments.
  5. Address issues that have the potential to advance knowledge about undergraduate teaching and learning.

Student Focus
Proposals should emphasize how student learning, particularly undergraduate learning, will be enhanced. Investigators are encouraged to consider factors such as the diversity of students enrolled, variable levels of student preparation, and the employment and family responsibilities of today’s undergraduates. When appropriate, projects should integrate student perspectives.

Collaboration
All proposals should include plans for collaborating with the Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence. As appropriate to scope or scale, projects should also indicate that investigators are working collaboratively with others who have relevant knowledge and experience. Collaborations may include informal contact with colleagues working on similar projects in the same or related disciplines, systematic work with a specific group of scholars, and consultation with experts in other fields.

Measuring Project Success
How will you know your project has been successful? Broad project goals and objectives should be translated into a discrete set of expected outcomes. Outcomes should describe expected student learning as well as the other project requirements noted here (need, impact, collaboration, dissemination). Qualitative and/or quantitative methods may be used to track progress, guide decision-making, and evaluate the success of the project.

Dissemination Plan
How will you share your results? All proposals should include a plan to disseminate findings to colleagues within Penn State. Investigators who want to disseminate beyond Penn State through regional, national, or international conferences and publications, should also describe those plans.

Budget
The budget may be used for any item or amount considered necessary, reasonable, and allowable under university policies and guidelines, and within the maximum allowed for each project. The amounts requested for each general category should be documented and justified. The budget justification should be no more than one page and include brief statements about how the funds will be used. See http://www.schreyerinstitute.psu.edu/Grants/Support/ for allowances and exceptions.
