Teaching Community Phase Model

Teaching Communities are supported over multiple years in a phased model.

Launch Phase

  • New group
  • Goals and purpose are developing
  • It may be experimental year, no minimum membership required
  • Deliverables will be a summary containing initial insights (e.g., what gaps does your community fill, what other opportunities exist, etc.)

Establish Phase (year 2 and 3)

  • Clear purpose
  • Stable and/or increasing membership
  • Regular meetings
  • Community will share takeaways with peers outside of the immediate group

Transition Phase (year 4)

  • Highly functioning
  • Stable membership
  • Determine group's future direction and leadership.
  • Takeaways or resources are shared through participation in SITE and/or University events (e.g., panels, presentations, website summaries etc.) to benefit the broader teaching community at Penn State
